The Grey Bruce Animal Shelter (GBAS) is an independent, all volunteer, Registered Charity, reaching out to help animals who cannot help themselves. Serving the communities of Grey and Bruce, we are located just south of Owen Sound. At Rockford  we are east on Grey Road 18 (the Derry Line) and 3km south on Concession 8.
Do you own a short-coated dog with a boxy snout?  Is it brindle, white, brown or red?  Then you may very well own an "Ontario pit bull".  This is a must read article about some confusing and dangerous ideas that have surfaced since the Breed Specific Law came into law...>
One great little litter box...
Check out the web site ... these are great litter boxes and your cat will thank you... 1-866-758-2986
Say goodbye to your unsightly litterbox. Order a Litterhouse and tell them you heard about it through the Grey Bruce Animal Shelter - you'll be thrilled with the product and we'll get a donation.

We are very proud to have Bonnie, one of our "young" volunteers representing the shelter all over town. There isn't a function at which Bonnie doesn't attend and this year's Hottest Yard Sale Under the Sun was no exception.

Here is Bonnie truly "taking the heat" to make this year's event a huge success!!! Thank you Bonnie for your continued support.

THANK YOU SUN TIMES READERS FOR SENDING IN SO MANY INCREDIBLY WONDERFUL PHOTOS OF YOUR MUCH LOVED PETS.
We hope someone in Grey Bruce is feeling pretty bad right now because we are!! This morning we arrived to a very sad scene outside the shelter door. A senior St. Bernard and two cages packed with cats had been dumped there ALL NIGHT.  It was pouring with rain and the dog had dug a hole under the bushes to try and keep dry - the cats had no option but to sit in the cages under sopping wet blankets and were soaked through sitting in about 2 inches of water.  They are at our vet now - some of them look very ill.

The OPP are scrutinizing our video surveillance tapes and we are asking for your help.  If you know anything about these poor animals, please call us (519) 372-1911.

UPDATE:
SPEEDY IS DOING GREAT ... Our little Speedy had his hip surgery two weeks ago and already is full of beans!  We couldn't have done it without the support of so many Grey Bruce residents. The response to our Speedy Fund has been overwhelming and more than a thousand dollars has been raised. The challenge now is for Speedy to understand that he can put his leg down and we have exercises for him to build muscle and the incentive to put weight on his leg for the first time in his life.

Thank you Dr. Berry and your team at the Southampton Pet Hospital for taking such good care of him and of course thank you to everyone who contributed to the Speedy Fund!

DONATE TO HELP ONE OF THE PUPPY MILL DOGS FROM RED BAY!
Say Hello to Speedy Gonzalez!

Despite the fact that he is running on three legs he gets around pretty fast – hence the name Speedy. Speedy is one of the “Old Red Bay Road Boys” and, as with another at the Southampton Vet Clinic, Speedy requires corrective knee/hip surgery. We want to get this little guy running at full speed as soon as possible. Please help by making a donation to our Speedy Fund.

As you know the Grey Bruce Animal Shelter is an all-volunteer, unfunded registered charity (BN890221591RR0001) and we are asking for help to pay for Speedy's surgery. Donations to the Speedy Fund can be made by Paypal, by cheque through the mail, or cash at the Shelter. An income tax receipt will be issued for donations of $10.00 or more. Please call us at (519) 372-1911 for more information.

Thanks to your enthusiastic response with the submission of hundreds of photos for the 2012 calendar. The Sun Times presented us with a cheque for $1,040.00. This beautiful calendar is now for sale at $12.00 each and the Shelter will also receive 50% from the sale proceeds. Calendars can be purchased at the Sun Times office and the Grey Bruce Animal Shelter. Thank you Sun Times and your readers for supporting our Shelter.

HOW LUCKY CAN WE GET ... January 22nd turned out to be the best day of the winter so far! Our first Snowshoe/Ski/Skijor event was an incredible success. It couldn't have been a more perfect day - fresh snowfall, brilliant sunshine, mild temperature, outstanding scenery and a brilliant event planned by Nancy McAfee of Tobermory. Nancy and her friends & family thought of everything: Cyprus Lake Campground is in the beautiful Bruce Peninsula National Park - the trails were groomed and mapped out, there were spotters out to make sure everyone was on track, and delicious refreshments to welcome everyone back to base. Through registrations and sponsor pledges $1,200 was raised for the Shelter. Thank you Nancy and everyone who came out and supported this event -- we hope it will become an Annual Winter Event.

You can raise funds through sponsorship for this trek or contribute on your own. The minimum donation to participate is $20.00. Please sign up by December 31, 2011 to ensure receipt of participation package and, if ordered, a t-shirt or toque. Click here for your Order Form and Sign-up Sheet. Thank you, Sarah...When Sarah makes up her mind to do something for the community she goes all the way. Last weekend Sarah came to the shelter to give us a donation. With the help of her family Sarah was on a mission to clean up the roadside by her home.

She and her family collected many bags of litter and Sarah separated the cans and bottles. She took in her "empties" and earned $6.75 for the pets at the shelter. Not only did the environment benefit from Sarah's hard work but the shelter pets did too. We are very proud to receive this donation and thank Sarah and her family.
